Two Worlds
This project blends the night view of NYC from The Edge with the dawn of a suburban town near Bryn Mawr, PA. It’s fascinating to reflect on how we experience such diverse lifestyles while sharing the same world, somewhere on Earth.
The Cat
The Cat depicts an orange cat staring directly into the camera while, below it, a human figure walks away into a blinding sun. The sharply focused cat represents the enduring, watchful truth in Murakami’s world, echoing Noboru Wataya’s cat as a quiet observer of deeper realities. In contrast, the fading man embodies the Murakami protagonist’s desire to dissolve the hollow social self and escape into oneness. Together, the image captures the final stage of the vanishing self: the human recedes, while the cat remains as the silent witness.
